Confirmation

Saint Joseph Parish Community emphasizes that all people gathered in the name of Jesus Christ, strive to build a community of faith and love and in particular, through the ministry of our Faith Formation Program from Grades K-8 for your children and for our young adults preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation.     
 
Our change from “CCD” to Faith Formation is to highlight that Faith Formation is a continuous process which is both developmental and experiential.  Because of this, it is extremely important that the formation of our children continue even after 8^th Grade as our young adults begin to prepare for the celebration and reception of the  Sacrament of Confirmation.
 
Having been given the serious responsibility of educating your children in the ways of faith, we feel that coming to classes must be supported by weekly attendance at Eucharist, the “source and summit” of our faith. 

In the Diocese of Paterson, the bishop has made part of diocesan law that each young adult be prepared two (2) years prior to receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.  The above Handbook clearly indicates the requirements, procedures and policies that are adhered to here at Saint Joseph Church in Newton for those preparing for this Sacrament of Confirmation. 

We encourage you and your young adult/s to become an active part of our parish community where "All Are Welcome" at this "table of the Lord" and to show your great faith in action by the many opportunities to serve our community and our brothers and sisters throughout Sussex County.
