Have you ever been to a church that is bare of decorations and has a minimal amount of flowers? In the past, there have been a few people that have commented "Father, don't you think you went a little 'over the top' with the flowers and decorations in church?" To which Father has responded: "Going over the top is our business." There is nothing more important that we do as a people of Catholic faith, than what we do in church. Therefore, why should we not give God our best and most beautiful when we are in His House?
As hard working people, we make sure that our children and we have the best of clothing, shoes, vehicle and comfortable housing. Why should it not be the same for the Lord? Would you ever bring plastic flowers to your Mother on Mother's Day? Would you ever set your table at Thanksgiving with a plastic tablecloth and disposable utensils? Then why would we do that for the Son of God in His own House?
Flowers, decorations, music, statues, stained glass windows are only a few ways in which we give glory to God. Certainly, presenting the Lord with the cheapness of plastic flowers, a minimalism of decorations and the absence of incense, all bespeak of a "low church" mentality, one that is not consistent with Catholic theology, philosophy or history. The Lord deserves the best that we can give to Him which includes our prayers, our sufferings and yes even the beautiful gifts of our time, talents and treasures.
As the Scriptures say: "The Lord loves a generous giver" (2 Corinthians 9:6). So if you would like to be part of this wonderful ministry that gives glory to the Lord by our words and especially our decorations, please contact Mrs. Maureen Dugan at: 862.354.3858 or email her at: [email protected].
