From the moment of the founding of the Knights of Columbus in 1882, charity has been our first principle. We are men of faith and men of action.
Our charitable activities encompass an almost infinite variety of local, national and international projects. From international charitable partnerships with Special Olympics, the Global Wheelchair Mission and Habitat for Humanity to our own Food for Families and Coats for Kids projects and other purely local charities, the opportunity to work together with fellow Knights and their families is virtually endless.
We undertake these acts of charity because we see those in need through the eyes of faith. Moreover, in the Knights of Columbus, we approach these acts of charity together.
If you would like to be a part of an international organization of more than 1.9 million Catholic men whose principal work involves helping others in need, we'd like to meet you and invite you to join us at one of our meetings.
Our Council was Chartered May 1st, 1981 and was named in memory of Saint (Don) John Bosco. It originally served the parishes of Good Shepherd in Andover, Our Lady Queen of Peace in Branchville, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Swartswood, and Saint Joseph Church in Newton. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel has since started its own Council. The name, Don Bosco, was suggested by Father Michael Moriarity of Saint Joseph, the original council Chaplain, because of the Saint's prominence in the area.
The council meets on the second Thursday of the month at the Sacred Heart Center, 20 Old Swartswood Road, Newton, NJ 07860 Meetings begin at 7:30pm. Social meetings are scheduled according to the activity planned. For more information please contact our Grand Knight: Deacon Thomas M. Sullivan.
